Peter Browne was born in 1947 at West Wyalong, although he claims to have been found under a sheet of tin near Rankin Springs!
This artist's work is the culmination of a truly colourful life.
Peter's early years were spent on a sheep property at Geogilderie on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, dodging snakes mustering sheep and catching Fish.
After an uneventful six years in the Australian Air Force he went bush and spent three years in Longreach mostly roustabouting and pressing in the surrounding Shearing sheds.
He became a household word after appearing on the Willessee Show as Australia's "Vegemite Painter".
His oil paintings of the early eighties were predominantly brown tones, his colours sneaked in after his move to Broken Hill.
He purchased a ruin in the Ghost town of Silverton 30 kilometers north west of Broken Hill and the rest is history.
His amazing mud and stone Gallery has been a tourist attraction ever since and has even had vice regal visits from Governors general and Governors a veritable who's who.
Peters Gallery appeared on the front cover of "The lonely planet" guide and stayed there for 5 years!
He has been a lifelong friend of Pro hart and the influences are visible in his work, he is also a friend and fellow exhibitor with Max Mannix.
